Chronic Pain, The Killer Of Dreams

We all have big dreams living in our hearts. We need dreams to fuel us, to help us become the best, most successful versions of ourselves.

But so many of us never achieve our dreams. We stay home when we should walk out the door. We nod and acquiesce, when we should put our foot down and say “No!” We linger in routine instead of breaking out of our comfort zone. The reasons behind lost or un-started dreams are legion, but I think one of the biggest reasons has to do with pain.

Americans are in pain. Lots and lots of pain. A study by the National Center for Health Statistics in 2006 found that approximately one in four Americans, (76.2 million people), suffered from pain that lasted longer than 24 hours. This is known as “chronic pain”. Chronic pain is like an evil shadows, always at your heels and draining away your energy and motivation to pursue your dreams.

The Link Between Health And Gratitude

We all experience setbacks and have dark days, but I believe that even the midst of the greatest trials, we all have many things to be thankful for. We have family members who love us, friends we can cry to, a roof over our heads, our personal faith, even just the big beautiful blue sky above us.

Attitude has a huge effect on your health. Study after study shows that chronic stress leads to high blood pressure, premature aging, weight gain, even some forms of cancer. On the other side of the coin, a positive outlook can protect and extend health. Gratitude, in particular, not only makes you a happier person, it can also make you’re a healthier one.

“Being thankful for the things you have and appreciating both the good and the bad in your life has the power to transform the way you actually live your life,” writes Dr. Cynthia Thiak in an article for the Huffington Post called “Gratitude Strengthens the Heart, Mind, Body and Soul.”

Acupuncture Can Help Relieve Allergies

Spring is here! The flowers are opening, the sun keeps us company in the evening, and…and…hold on…A.A.ACHEW!

…and allergies.

If your spring involves keeping a box of tissues always at hand, then you are not alone. According to WebMD, 55% of Americans test positive for allergens, including such spring classics as hay fever, ragweed and pollen. You may also be all too familiar with the year-round allergens of pet dander and food allergens.

Pursuing True Wellness In 2014

Welcome to 2014! I hope that 2013 was a wonderful year for you, but even if it wasn’t, now is the time to put it in the rearview mirror and start looking forward. What do you want to accomplish in 2014?

When we think about goals and accomplishments, we tend to envision actions – losing weight, volunteering time at the food bank, hiking to the top of the mountain, cashing a bigger paycheck, etc… We rarely think about how we need to change in order to accomplish all those goals. Weight doesn’t fall off by itself, and if you are too tired to go hiking this year, how are you going to get to the top of the mountain?

Combining Acupuncture and Massage for Double the Relaxation

Want to treat yourself during this hectic holiday month or start the new year off with some relaxation therapy?

Yes! You deserve it! But which type of therapy will you choose? Do you want the healing power of acupuncture or the stress-melting beauty of massage?

I can hear you screaming through the screen – Both!

In fact, if you’re like me, you probably want it all – facials, acupuncture, massage and chiropractic care each week, and maybe a body scrub thrown in for good measure. If only we had the money to afford all of those services and the time to spend an entire afternoon driving to our favorite professionals.
